Nursery

Welcome to Nursery! We have an amazing team who love to look after and educate your children, and we look forward to seeing you in person at Fonthill Nursery. We have 15- or 30-hour sessions and our Nursery times are 8:45am-11:45am and 8:45-3:15pm.

Here are some photos of your teachers and areas you will see in Nursery. Every term, there will be an opportunity where we have ‘family time’, where we will share our learning and you can spend time in our learning environment with your child.

Miss Taylor has 2 dogs named Nellie and Darcy and a partner named Darron. She has 2 grown up children and loves to eat out and watch rugby. Favourite story: I want my hat back by Jon Klassen

Mrs Jenkins likes spending time with her cat named Daisy and her husband Ben. In her free time, she likes to bake and go for runs. Mrs Jenkins is a qualified Forest School Leader. Favourite story: We’re going on a bear hunt by Micheal Rosen.

We have our own Early Years gate, what we share with Reception. You will use this gate to drop off and pick up your child from Nursery.

You have your own peg where you will hang your coat and bag. You will use this trolley for your packed lunch and water bottle.

We have a ‘share a book bag’ system where parents/carers can change your child’s book, this is kept in our garden.

In the photos above you will see different areas around our class.

In our mark making area, you can draw pictures of your families. In the small world area, we have cars, dinosaurs, dolls, doll house, brick, animals and Duplo. At our funky fingers and art and crafts area, we will make cards, do cutting, have playdough, paint and have sticking. In our book corner, you can enjoy reading stories with your friends. In our roleplay corner, you can pretend to cook food, play babies, go to the hairdressers or Santa’s Workshop! We have a maths area, where we will learn to count, subitise, recognise patterns, represent our own mathematical ideas, recognise numerals, use propositional language and explore early mathematical concepts.

We have a lovely outdoor area. We have a mud kitchen, bikes, planting area, slide, climbing frame, sand pit and a small world area. We love to play in the sand pit, on the bikes and in the garden with our friends. Sometimes in the Summer, we even eat snack outside!

Here are some useful links to support your child starting Nursery.

Speaking

As you already know it is important to talk to your child - even when they are very young! Research shows this helps children develop language skills and vocabulary, which are predictors of future academic and social success!

Making friends

We spend lots of time in Nursery working in small groups and helping children to develop strong friendships. School holidays are also a great opportunity to meet up with family and friends, going to the park, beach, a farm or even a play date at home will help your child to develop all the friendship skills they need ready for Reception.

Skills such as:

-turn taking

-conversation building

-shared experiences

-social skills

-understanding others feelings, wants and needs

Why not make a date with another family from the Nursery to meet up after school or over the holidays?
