Reading Recovery Pupil of the Year 2015

 

Every Child a Reader (ECaR)

Every Child a Reader (ECaR) is an initiative to help raise attainment in literacy.

There are several interventions that are part of ECAR. At Fonthill we use

  • Reading Recovery
  • Better Reading partners.

The Reading Recovery teacher plans provision with the school leadership team, and share their expertise to improve practice and raise standards across the school

Our reading Recovery Teacher is Miss Knight.

Reading Recovery

A 1:1 intensive reading programme aimed at Year One and Year Two children.  Children identified for Reading Recover will do some very specific reading and writing with Mrs Stevens EVERY day.

By the time children get to the end of the programme it is expected that they will be able to read more confidently and have gained an enjoyment of reading that will continue for life!

Better Reading Partners

Selected children undertake a 10 week programme, with a trained adult. They read with the adult three times a week to give their reading a boost. All Teaching Assistants at Fonthill are trained as Better Reading Partners and currently we have extra trained adults from UWE coming to Fonthill every week to work with our children as Better Reading Partners.

Reading Volunteers

In addition to this we also have volunteers form Airbus who come weekly to read with children. Mrs. Stevens works with them all before they begin reading with children, giving them the training they need to be most effective.
